In DC United’s final action of the 2011 season, Josh Wolff headed a ball just off the top of the crossbar following two smart and precise passes nearly tying the conference leaders and saving some face for a side that has watched its season fade into frustrating “might have been” moments. Somehow, it was a [...]
It is a soccer cliché to go for the win at home and a tie away, but not for Ben Olsen’s DC United. For whatever reason, probably a reflection of their coach’s hardnosed attitude, United’s players come out tough as visitors and have earned their superior away record. They are well aware of their own [...]
Saturday’s 1-1 tie against the reigning MLS Cup Champions demonstrated how far along Coach Ben Olsen has come in molding a young team into a pattern which served him so well as he developed as a player with DC United. They are working smarter and harder as they learn more with each game. The team [...]
As the profoundly disappointing 2010 season has dragged on, DC United has never quite fully settled on a consistent roster. However, the team as a whole has matured significantly. With a mere sixth of the season remaining and too many defenders injured, United still appears to have put almost all the pieces together. Tino Quaranta [...]
In most countries the National Open Cup will present a top division professional team with increasingly strong competition as it advances through the brackets. The US Open Cup presents more of a roller coaster ride for MLS teams which first play into the competition against similarly strong teams then drop down to meet lesser teams [...]

Two games into the 2010 season, the team has no points and no goals. “I thought we moved the ball, I thought we created chances,” said head coach Curt Onalfo after the loss to New England. “Unfortunately you have to finish those chances.” And therein lay the rub.
DC United coaching staff have been testing Santino Quaranta as the team’s creative midfielder this preseason. It is part of a larger plan to broaden DC United’s attack this season and its success (or failure) will directly influence the team’s acquisition targets at midseason.
