Staying Fit During Cold Winter Months

Many people depend on that long string of warm weather from mid-springtime to early autumn in order to carry out their fitness routines.  Whether they run for several miles along the side of the road or through some woodland trails, play basketball with friends or go rollerblading at the local park, these day-to-day athletes hit a slump come the cold weather season.  Inhibited from going outdoors but annoyed at their inability to exercise, these Washington fitness cravers could simply join a D.C. gym but have chosen not to for one reason or another (to save money on membership fees, to avoid the gym crowd, etc.).  If you need to be able to work out but refuse to o go to the gym, you can always resort to at-home workouts using the proper equipment.

While at home, you don’t necessarily need a $1000 treadmill or a personal trainer in order to stay fit.  With just a few pieces of home fitness equipment, you can stay in shape without ever having to step foot in a gym.  If you have a jump rope at the ready, for instance, you’ve already taken care of your cardio fitness needs.  A half hour session on the jump rope every day will be excellent for your aerobic exercise requirements and may also help your coordination.  Plus, a jump rope can easily be stored just about anywhere, so you’ll never have to worry about it getting in the way.

Another useful tool for home fitness is an exercise ball.  Perfect for core strengthening exercises, stretching, and more, you’ll be glad you had an effective exercise ball to help you through those arduous abdominal exercises.  Easy to roll into a closet or under a tall bed, you can hid the ball with ease and still have access to it at any point.  You should also keep a couple of free weights around for chest and arm strengthening.  So with these three pieces within an arm’s reach, you should be able to maintain your personal fitness without having to step outside into the cold or set foot in a gym for even a second.
