DC United widens its chances with improved strategy

Coach Tom Soehn used the 10 day break to drive home the importance of wide play through consistent training and was fortunate to have an opponent well suited to allow his players to grow comfortable with it. His youngsters executed the plan with discipline and effectiveness to pull out a 3-0 victory which gives United the tiebreaking edge over Marathon.

DC United holds off Fire 2-1

Christian Gomez scored the go-ahead goal in the waning minutes of the first half and it held up as the game-winner as DC United defeated the Chicago Fire 2-1 at RFK Stadium Saturday evening. With the victory, DCU take first place in the Eastern Conference and perhaps establish a pattern of dominance in the 2009 campaign.

DC United washes out Red Bulls 2-0

A Jaime Moreno penalty in stoppage time finally put a tense game out of reach as DC United prevailed over the New York Red Bulls Thursday night at RFK Stadium. Tom Soehn’s club now gets a full week of well-deserved rest. For Juan Carlos Osorio and the Red Bulls, it’s back to the drawing board again. Assuming, that is, Osorio gets to stick around.
